Chap 6 比較級 ＆ 最高級

比較的數量多寡

• 兩者之間比較： 比較級: the smaller of the 2 moons
• 三者以上比較： 最高級: of all mammals, ... the longest period ...

原級比較、比較級、最高級

• 原級比較： __as ... as ...__(肯定)、__not so ... as ...__(否定) (原級比較，有 as 就要找 as)
• 比較級： __more ... than ...__ (有 than 就要找比較級)
• 最高級： most

修飾比較級的 adv

much/no/far/a little/considerably/ + 比較級

very + 原形 adj

與 as ... as ... 合用的數量詞 (倍數)

• __as ... as ...__ 一樣
• twice __as ... as ...__ 兩倍
• three times __as ... as ...__ 三倍

最高級與序數連用 (第幾第幾)

• the largest 第一大
• the second largest 第二大
• the third largest 第三大

常出現在數字前的

• as many as： 相當於 up to，視為單純 adv，ex: as many as 9 years
• more than： 相當於 over，視為單純 adv，ex: more than 3 million people

本身就具比較意味，不需比較級 "than" 的 adj

superior/inferior/senior/junior/prior + to

"absolute" adj 沒有比較級、最高級 (沒有程度的差異)

perfect, entire, total, complete, unique, round, ...

The more ... the more ...

• 本身就具有 conj 功能，不需 and (除非只是想將兩個 the more 串起來)
• than ，因為他已是比較級的變種
• 兩句中的其中一動詞可省略，但條件是：
  • 該句的 S 不是 pron
  • 該動詞必得是 be-V

若出現兩次不同比較，要個別寫出

• S is __as ... as ...__, or more than ...
• S is __as ... as ...__, if not more (than) ..., ...
• S is as ..., if not more than ..., as ... (中間 if not more than 可視作插入句，__as ... as ...__ 還是要寫完)

不是所有最高級都要加 the (後面沒有 N，就沒有 the (adv))

• work best when ...
• Jupiter spins fastest
• most 當 pron: most of ...

其他注意事項

• slender adj 原形，非比較級
• held every four years，當作單位，裡面 N 可複數
